Happy December!!!

Hello and Happy December!
Here's a riddle for you ...

WHAT DO SNOWMEN EAT FOR BREAKFAST?

(Come and see me if you know the answer to this!)

So, what are you reading? I'm excited to pick up a new book. Judy Freeman (here's her web site www.judyreadsbooks.com) visited us at Marshall Hill yesterday!  (I want to be Judy when I grow up!)  She is an awesome storyteller, and reviews children's books for a living. What a cool job is that??? She even works with James Patterson (one of my all-time favorite authors) and reviews books on his web site Read Kiddo Read (www.readkiddoread.com).  Make sure you visit for suggestions for great books to read. You can even vote for your favorites - there's a new book award called the Kiddo Award and the books we all vote for will get it!

Some of my favorite books to read this time of year are ...

  • Redbird at Rockefeller Center (by Peter Maloney and Felicia Zekauskas)
  • Auntie Claus (by Elise Primavera)
  • The Polar Express (by Chris VanAllsburg)
  • The Hat (by Jan Brett)
  • The Mitten Tree (by Candace Christiansen)
What are your seasonal favorites? Maybe I have some of them and we can read them together!

Hello Again from Mrs. Gridley in Marshall Hill's Media Center!

Can you believe it? Since last Friday I've finished the Janet Evanovich novel I was reading, started a new one, and I'm almost done with that one as well. Yes, I really do love to read!

I am a trustee on the township library board. Mrs. Maynard, the West Milford Township Library Director, sent a link to this article, "Why Books will Last Forever." It was published in the Bergen Record recently and is worth a read. Here is the link:  http://www.northjersey.com/news/opinions/op-ed/books_092810.html.

What are you reading now? Please stop in to tell me!

Happy Reading!

Happy October!

This is one of my favorite times of the year to be a librarian. There are SO many great books and stories to read in October. It is also a great time of year to explore some of the secrets of great storytellers. I can't wait to share some of these secrets with you and read some suspenseful tales to you!

Right now I'm reading the latest book by Janet Evanovich. I love her books - they make me laugh out loud. Janet's books are mostly set in New Jersey, Trenton to be exact. This particular book that I'm reading is set in Salem, Massachusetts. Appropriate for October, don't you think?

What are you reading?

Wow, can you believe Autumn will be starting this week? Time is certainly flying. What kinds of books do you like to read in the fall? When I'm reading to students, I'll be reading lots of books about apples, pumpkins and other seasonal things.

As for my personal reading, I finished Eat, Pray, Love. It was a very good book, although I was a little disappointed with the ending. I felt that it ended a little abruptly.  Now I'm reading a book by Elin Hilderbrand. I've read a lot of her novels and I like the way she writes. Her books tend to be set in the summer on Nantucket so I find them soothing.

Enjoy!

Welcome!

Hello Everyone!

Welcome back to school! This year my schedule has changed. I will be at Westbrook School on Mondays and Thursdays. I will be at Marshall Hill School on Tuesdays, Wednesdays and Fridays. Although I'll miss seeing all my Westbrook students every day, I look forward to sharing my enthusiasm for reading and technology with another whole school!

So ... what am I reading now? I've just settled down to start Eat, Pray, Love.  My personal opinion is that the book is ALWAYS better than the movie, so I try to read it before I see it on the big screen.

What are you reading now? I'd love for you to share your opinion with me.

As always you can reach me at nancy.gridley@wmtps.org.

Have a great school year!!
